September 8, 2009. Congratulations to Jerry Auld for his nomination for the 2009 Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature for his first novel, Hooker & Brown (Brindle & Glass, Fall 2009).

Based on a true story from the Rocky Mountains and filled with exhilarating descriptions of one climber’s attempt to tackle some of the world’s greatest peaks, Hooker & Brown explores the effect of mystery and historical inaccuracies in our lives.

The Boardman Tasker Prize was established in 1983 for Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker, two British explorers and authors, who were last seen on Mount Everest.  Their literacy legacy lives on through this prize, which is given to an author for an original work that makes an outstanding contribution to mountain literature.

The winner will be announced at an award presentation on November 20th as part of the Kendal Mountain Festival in Kendal, United Kingdom.
